In each issue, three new #microchallenges are set to add interest and silliness to your kilometres.
These three fun #microchallenges will help you to appreciate your surroundings and have fun on your walks. Our favourite six #microchallenge completers receive a money-can’t-buy limited edition Walk1200km badge, and the best entry for each challenge receives a prize from our partners.
#microchallenge28: Find the middle ground
Get creative and plan a walk to the middle of something – the North Island, New Zealand (pictured above!), a park or the halfway point to somewhere. Take a photo, tell us where you are and what it’s like! #microchallenge28

Partner prize: A Big Agnes Impassable 20 pack worth $360!

#microchallenge29: Your oldest piece of kit in regular use
Share a photo of the oldest piece of kit that you still use regularly and tell us why it’s so awesome. Thanks to participant Beth Jolly for this idea. #microchallenge29
Partner prize: A $100 Back Country Cuisine Voucher

#microchallenge30: Eyes up!
Lean back or lie down to take a photo of the forest canopy – or just trees – set against a blue sky. #microchallenge30

Partner prize: A pair of Bridgedale Midweight Merino Performance Fit socks!
How to enter
You must be a registered Walk1200km participant to win. Take a photo of yourself completing the challenge (yes, people make a photo more interesting and winsome!) and share it on the Walk1200km Facebook group with a descriptive caption and using the relevant hashtag – e.g. #microchallenge25 – by December 22 (or email entries to walk1200km@lifestylepublishing.co.nz with the relevant hashtag in the subject line and the description in the email). Winners will be published in the March 2026 issue of Wilderness.
