Each month, three new #microchallenges are set to add interest and silliness to your kilometres.

These three fun #microchallenges will help you better appreciate your surroundings and have fun on your walks. Our favourite nine #microchallenge completers receive a Walk1200km badge, and the best entry for each challenge receives a prize from our partners.

#microchallenge25: Play in the snow

Go for a walk where there’s snow. Maybe you’ll throw a snowball, make a snow angel or build a snow creature – whatever it is, show us how much fun it is! #microchallenge25

Partner prize: A pair of Bridgedale Midweight Merino Performance Fit socks.

#microchallenge26: Photograph a reflection

Take a photo of an interesting reflection in a puddle, river, lake, sea or window. Important: the reflection should be the subject of the image (as above!). Thanks to Sandra Galvao for this great idea! #microchallenge26

Partner prize: A $100 Back Country Cuisine voucher

#microchallenge27: Lego in the landscape

Take a Lego minifigure on a walk and photograph it in such a way you think it might make a good cover of Wilderness. Superb idea Alice Hall (yes, that’s the ed’s Lego-loving daughter)! #microchallenge27

Partner prize: Salewa Mountain Trainer Mid GTX boots worth $549.90

How to enter

You must be a registered Walk1200km participant to win. Take a photo of yourself completing the challenge (yes, people make a photo more interesting and winsome!) and share it on the Walk1200km Facebook group with a descriptive caption and using the relevant hashtag – e.g. #microchallenge25 – by August 21 (or email entries to walk1200km@lifestylepublishing.co.nz with the relevant hashtag in the subject line and the description in the email). Winners will be published in the October 2024 issue of Wilderness
