There’s a reason Lumix cameras are considered amongst the best you can buy.

Since 2001, Lumix, by Panasonic, has been developing powerful cameras for mobile content creators. A partnership with renowned German camera manufacturer Leica has allowed Lumix to produce innovative cameras by combining Panasonic’s technological skills and optical technology with Leica’s lens designs.

This partnership has led to many world-first developments that are now considered standard camera features. Lumix has also led the way in miniaturising zoom technology. In 2002, the FZ1 was the first digital camera with 12x optical zoom. The FZ series now has up to 60x zoom. In 2006, the TZ1 was the smallest camera with 10x zoom. TZ cameras now have 30x zoom.

In 2008, Lumix introduced the world’s first mirrorless camera with the DMC-G1. Mirrorless cameras now dominate the interchangeable lens market.

Fast forward to 2022 and Lumix has a well-established reputation for quality products that are robust and reliable. The TZ range is a great starting point for those looking for a compact but high-quality pocket camera. The top of the range DC-TZ220 combines a 10x Leica zoom lens with a 20-megapixel sensor.

Lumix has two interchangeable lens systems. Lumix G is based on the Micro 4/3 standard. Any lens or body that is part of this standard is compatible, irrespective of brand. It has been designed for those who prioritise image quality and portability. All current Lumix G cameras are weather and dust sealed.

The Lumix S, first produced in 2018, is a shared standard called ‘L mount’. This is used by Lumix, Leica and Sigma to provide a wide selection of compatible hardware. With a larger lens mount and associated sensors, photographers can shoot images in low light and with more control over the depth of field.

Contact your local Lumix dealer to discuss which Lumix system is best for you.
