The guff: Three-season, 3020g (max)/2780g (trail), 3.69m², vestibules 2.01m².

Roomy by name, roomy by nature: this tent can fit a queen size mattress and, as such, is best suited to camping, although it does make a decent fist of being a tramper’s tent. It’s at the heavy end for a two-person backpacking tent, but it’s respectable if three are using it – and there is space for three people.

Its main downside is, simply, bulk. The carry bag is clearly geared towards camping: with carry handles and no compression straps.

The Roomy 2 is big, simple and solid: a real throwback to camping tents of old. Sleaved cross poles are supplemented by two short poles that create more headspace and add shear strength.

The 68D taffeta polyester floor is fairly tough, though the 1500mm PU coating is on the light side for a tent that otherwise prioritises sturdiness over weight. There’s some nice interior features, such as mesh pockets for stowing gear, a clothesline and an overhead lamp attachment.

The two vestibules are spacious enough for gear and cooking. The lack of air vents in the fly is a drawback, though the inner is about 50 per cent mesh. Even so, condensation and air quality might be an issue, especially if there are three people inside or you’re camping in cold and wet conditions.

There are plenty of guy points to shore the tent up against a gale, but it comes with an inadequate number of pegs.

The Roomy 2 would make a great base camp tent for two.
