Calling all trampers – Wilderness is looking for a freelance part-time newsletter and social media editor to begin in early March.
The role is up to eight hours a week and involves writing Wilderness’s daily, weekly and monthly newsletters, sharing content on its social media channels as well as finding ways to be more engaging on social media to grow the magazine’s audience and presence. It also requires writing the weekly ‘The World Outdoors’ online story.
It requires a clever wordsmith who can write catchy subject lines and who can summarise a story in one or two sentences. It’s not a copy-and-paste job – it requires thought, planning and skill as well as humour, nuance and, above all, a genuine interest in the subject matter – i.e. tramping in New Zealand.
Part of the job is to devise ways to improve newsletter strategy so that we can convert more email subscribers into paying magazine subscribers. As such, you will need to have a genuine interest in how newsletters are being used by Wilderness and other media organisations – what works, what doesn’t – in order to create a bespoke product that will be highly engaging and thoroughly enjoyed especially by our subscribers.
The ideal candidate will be a writer, preferably a journalist, with experience in writing newsletters. The key attribute though, is an unwavering understanding of what attracts a reader to the magazine.
If you’re interested in the role, please introduce yourself to Alistair – editor@lifestylepublishing.co.nz – with your cover letter and relevant experience. And have a think about what we’re currently doing and how we can do it better.
