The biggest adventure grant directly available New Zealanders, with recipients receiving $8000 towards their expedition, and $2000 worth of gear from The North Face, is closing in on its application due date.

The North Face Adventure Grant is available to human-powered expeditions that ‘embody the spirit of exploration’.

Past recipients include New Zealander Mark Sedon, who set out to climb and ski all 18 mountains above 2500m in the Southern Lakes region in 2012. He completed the adventure in 2015.

In 2014, New Zealand mountaineer Paul Hersey led Shelley Hersey and John Price on an expedition to the remote unclimbed peak Anidesha Chuli/White Wave (6815m) in the north-eastern corner of Nepal.

In 2015, Jordan Searle, David Bain, Barny Young and Ari Walker completed the first kayak descent of the Karangarua River. They completed the journey from Christmas Hut to Cassel Flat and continued through to the Tasman Sea.

Applications close November 30. Proposals will be reviewed by a panel and the recipient will be notified in December.
