It’s a steady climb from the road end, first coming to Graylings Clearing where good views of the area can be had, and then on to the hut, which sits just below the crest of the range – out of the prevailing winds.
A short walk from the hut leads to the crown of the range and views of Mt Egmont/Taranaki across the Ahukawakawa Swamp.
It takes about one hour to walk from the hut to the 1400m high point on the range.
