Two New Zealand tramps are among the 10 most Instagrammed walks in the world, according to Lonely Planet.

The travel guide has researched the walks with the most shares and tags on Instagram to compile the list, which features some of the most popular trails in the world.

The Te Araroa Trail makes number nine on the list, with 35,304 posts, followed by the Tongariro Alpine Crossing, with 31,048 posts.

Leading the list is the Appalachian Trail in the US, with 622,549 posts, followed by Peru’s Inca Trail, with 161,079 posts.

The popularity of the social media platform has become a headache for DOC, with thousands of people flocking to sites like Roy’s Peak in Wanaka and Mueller Hut in Aoraki/Mt Cook National Park trying to get the shot.

The influence of Instagram has lead some professional photographers to stop tagging the location of their photos to prevent the sites from becoming overrun with tourists.
