Club pulls pines

Waikato Tramping club members pull pines on Mt Tarawera

Waikato Tramping Club members have pulled more than 2000 wilding pines from the slopes of Mt Tarawera.

Twenty club stalwarts were bussed onto the lower slopes of the mountain and then walked to an area overlooking Lake Tarawera where they spent the day pulling and cutting out small pines.

The day was organised with the Ruawahia 2B Trust, Tuhourangi (Te Ariki Lands Trust), the Department of Conservation and the Bay of Plenty Regional Council to help restore the mana and kaitiakitanga (guardianship) of the mountain and the wider Tarawera catchment.
