To reach Tarawera Falls you must obtain a vehicle permit from Kawerau Information Centre on Plunket St, Kawerau for a $5. From SH34 in Kawerau, turn into River Rd and then Waterhouse Street. After 1km turn left then right into Rotoiti Rd. Tarawera Falls is sporadically signposted and passes through a further 23km of forestry roads, which are mostly unsealed

An easy walk along the shores of Lakes Tarawera and Okataina. Camping in DOC campsites can be found at Tarawera Outlet with toilets and piped water (from the lake) and Humphries Bay.
